The Gov held a show a few weeks back, all folk type stuff. Wasn't sure what to think about it all but once we walked in the door I was hooked. Awesome music and a great crowd - not a single cotton shoe wearing hipster to be seen!! Rach's tribal dance group were part of the action and attracted a lot of attention from the crowd with cameras going off left right and centre. Rach was a star with her solo dance and roam through the crowd, so cool. So who played? There was - Cookie Baker, The Little Stevies, Ray Mann, The Transatlantics and The Woohoo Revue. I swear, get any of these guys tunes and you'll be impressed. The standout however, was The Woohoo Revue with their crazy gypsy folk sounds! One of those unexpected great nights. Have been too busy to actually post or write anything since new years so here a summary in the form of a few photos and words. More Central Markets yumminess. Sunset at Port Noarlunga. A night out with the peeps. Grace Emily then the Enigma Bar. Retrovelo - An exhibition held in conjunction with the Tour Down Under. Fixed Friday - 29 Jan 2010 01/30/2010
Advertised as such: I know we're a month into the year, but that has given everyone enough time to finish their holidays, settle into work and wish they were on holidays again. There also seems to be a few new riders in town and people who would love to show off their Christmas presents (even if they gave them to themselves, me included).... For this reason we're riding on Friday night! Start at Garema place (Goon Bag) at 7pm (or Debacle at 6:30pm for a pre-ride drink). Heading out on bike paths toward Belco, then back toward the lake past OPH and into Kingston for a Filthy beer. For those keen it'll then be further round the lake into town again for Mojitos at the Knightsbridge Penthouse. (The route is obviously a guide and depending on consensus can vary on the day). Lights, locks and helmets. See you there, Ty. So twelve of us met, visited the bottlo and headed off into the windy, cloudy, rain threatened yonder. Some hard and fast riding found us atop the hillside near Cotter Dam overlooking the lake for our first beer stop. Brodburger was next, for a one hour wait. (For what it's worth, and at the risk of execution, I'm going to say these famed burgers are not worth a one hour wait - stomp, stomp, stomp, slam.) A vote then saw us bathed in the soothing yellow light of the Phoenix enjoying Squires, whiskey and great company. It also happened to be John's birthday, so, Happy Birthday John!! The Phoenix then shut and I was home by four. Til next time. There has been a race on in Adelaide whilst I have been here. Lots of guys have been riding really fast up and down hills, and lots of guys have decided that their once a year ride will take place at this time, so the streets are full of retards falling over with there feet still in their pedals – funny times. Anyway, I took lots of pics and here are some. I’m not overly interested in what happened as spectating pretty much sucks and you actually miss all the action. (Lots of driving to get places for a few seconds of colour is quite frustrating – especially when one of the before mentioned retards decides to block your view as they hold their IXUS 80 at arms length over the barrier in front of you). I’m in no way trying to retell the race with these pics, so they aren’t in order, just an idea of what it was all about. Enjoy. And here’s a selection of guys who are a big deal around here at the moment. If you don’t know who they are you need to stop watching ball sports and concentrating on cycle study! Lastly, the photo I like to call the trifecta. The Lady. 01/19/2010
I built Rach a bike. You may remember it from the entry I wrote about finding it at the dump. Here it is all pretty with a pretty girl riding it. I don't know a lot about it other than that it's from the early eighties (judging by the Positron gearing) and it's from Germany (judging from the German bike shop stickers). I acquired some flat bars for ease of riding, a new rear wheel, basket and of course the pink bell I bought for Rach in Notting Hill. The rest of the work was simply adjusting and servicing - gotta be lucky sometime. Just in case you're wondering what Positron is, here's the low down (circa 1979-1984). 5 January 2010 Was lucky enough to catch up with the Adelaide fixie guys for a ride last night. We met up at my favourite city pub, the Exeter on Rundle St, before roughly following the rail line to the coast at Brighton. Someone managed to nail a mountain bike rider head-on, so while we waited for word on whether they'd be joining us Rick decided to show us his stuff. pretty impressive, even the falls look good!! To the bottle-o at Brighton for long necks of our favourites, then some of the tastiest chips in town before we relaxed on the grass. The sun disappeared and the guys continued on (I went home as I only lived around the corner!). Hope to do the same next week. 19 January 2010 Headed out with the guys again, same meeting place but this time it was a ride up to Brown Hill Creek. After a couple of beers we headed out of the city by passing a bottlo for refreshments, then it was a long gradual climb through Brown Hill Recreation Park before we stopped to devour our new beers. Rick couldn't wait........ A chill quickly came over the hills so we decided to head back downhill, much spinning took place before we reached Mitcham for some chips in the back alley behind a fish and chip shop (thanks to Dan's shop owner friends no-one was left hungry or thirsty). A fun ride under city lights brought us to the Wheatsheaf for......more beer. My plan to stay for one was dashed as I found my bike was at the bottom of the pile of bikes.....a good excuse to enjoy two more..... ......til next time I'm in Adelaide. Shopping. 01/05/2010
Had a great morning shopping in Adelaide today. What did we end up with? 2 large Turkish bread 1 dozen large free rang eggs 1 chrome bicycle pump 400g Black Forrest Ham 2 punnets chilli olives 1/2 a dozen large juicy carrots 400g Australian Cheddar 1 triple flute bicycle horn 2 HUGE mangoes 1 punnet large cherry tomatoes 1 pair white Joinit grips (Made in Adelaide) 8 Juicy nectarines 300g ham off the bone 7 Pink Lady apples 1 Giro Skyla helmet with pink, gold and cherry red flowers 1 packet water crackers First we found ourselves at one of our favourite breakfast destinations before a morning of shopping at the Central Markets, the T-Bar. Then we let loose in the markets buying everything we so desired! On the way home we stopped by a new favourite of mine, The Classic Bicycle Shop. Specialising in 'classic bicycles' the shop is full of authentic steel bikes manufactured in India just as they have been since the nineteen thirties. I'm not kidding when I say there is not a single modern thing on these bikes, including the occasional side pull braking system. They have even had custom tyres made in the original gummie colour, can't wait to see a pair fitted. I picked up a triple horn (cars will be getting out of my way with this thing), a chrome pump for Steve and a pair of white grips made in Adelaide. When in Adelaide visit Barney at the shop, you wont be disappointed. Oh, and we stopped by Super Elliot's to buy Rach a new helmet so that we can take her new bike out. More to come on that one....... |
