Jindabyne to Charlottes Pass. 04/18/2010
I decided it'd be a great idea to head to the mountains for a spot of uphill. Jindabyne sits at a sultry 918m above sea level and I planned to ride to Charlottes Pass which sits at 1837m. Honestly, I have no idea if this is a mean feat or just an average day for a Spaniard, but I do know that after only 80km I was pretty well f*cked. I began the ride just outside of Jindabyne where it was sunny, practically windless and 23 degrees. I decided to carry a small bag full of food and clothes as I do know that the weather can be very unpredictable on the mountain. Climbing below the snowline, past the fly-fishermen and National Parks Permit office I began to wonder if I had brought enough water as I was well and truly sweating. This concern didn't last long as I reached the plateau and the temp dropped to 10 degrees in a noticeably short time. One of the more interesting roadside stops were taken next to Perisher, I leaned on my bike and pin-pointed the spots on the side of the mountain I recall having disastrous accidents in the ski season....... Windstopper vest, knee warmers and gloves were donned as I made the last section to the Pass. I was more concerned about freezing my extremities on the return trip and the clothes paid off. Soon enough I was sweating again even though it'd taken me half the time to return to Lake Jindabyne, averaging 40km an hour over 40km (there were still some painful climbs, they hurt even more when your legs are cold from rolling downhill for minutes at a time). If you get a chance head up, it's prefect around Easter; no cars, great weather and perfectly maintained roads pre-ski-season. Velodrome bash. 04/16/2010
We headed out to the velodrome for a spin last night. It's been a long time since I've been on the banks, the bug has bitten and I'll be back when the season starts! Easter Beer Hunt. 04/02/2010
![]() Recently back from interstate I was keen to get a ride in and catch up with the Canberra Fixed Gear peeps, so I organised a Beer Hunt commemorating the rabbit that was nailed to the cross and then came back to life. The theory being that not all pubs are open on Good Friday so we'd have to hunt high and low in order to get some beer in. We started at King O'Malleys in civic then ventured to All Bar Nun in O'Connor, Edgars in Ainslie and then around the lake to The Durham in Kingston. Great night was had by all. |
